Cleveland was the center of the sports universe Thursday night on what was an off-day for the Indians.
The NFL Draft is in town and provided a nice sense of normalcy after over a year of shutdowns and restrictions on public events.
One unique part of this draft is that even though it is taking place in Cleveland, it isn’t the usual do-or-die event for the Browns.
The team picked at No. 26 overall and ended up taking Greg Newsome II, a defensive back out of Northwestern.
The Indians were quick to welcome him to town with a tweet.
Welcome to Cleveland, @gnewsii!

It is always great to see the Cleveland teams support each other and the newest star players in town.
A Cleveland Welcome for Greg Newsome II
Newsome is a dominant cornerback and should fit in well with what the Browns want to do on defense.
This welcome from the Indians should also mean he is at Progressive Field some point soon throwing out the first pitch at a game.
That has become a right of passage for Browns first-round picks and it will provide Newsome with the perfect Cleveland welcome.
The team can invite him on a night when Shane Bieber is pitching if they want to truly impress the young man.
Getting someone like Newsome to throw out a first pitch is a nice and casual affair.
He was not a No. 1 overall pick, or a quarterback, and the future of the franchise is not riding on his shoulders.
Fans at Progressive Field can give him a nice round of applause and that is that.

IM HOME🧡🤎👀

There are still some fans who either only support the Indians or the Browns.
However, plenty of others support all the teams in town.
That makes it nice to see the Indians congratulate a Browns draft pick like this.
Hey, the ultimate dream for any fan should be for all three teams in town to be great at the same time.
It would truly be a party downtown every night of the week if that were the case.
That was what it felt like in the summer of 2016 when the Cavaliers won their title and the Indians marched all the way to Game 7 of the World Series.
The Browns now have a shot to be the best team in town, with the Indians trailing right behind.
Newsome should enjoy his new home and Indians fans should see him soon.
Hopefully, he throws a strike.
